FAF Design or Forte Air Factory, is an air-ideas Design Studio established by my wife Ada and I in 1998, following the completion of our degrees in Textile and Surface Design at Shenkar College.
We see textiles & patterns as a challenge. Through our work we explore issues such as patterns, symbols, and material usage, viewing textile design as the fusion of these factors. We continuously search for new horizons in design, whether it is discovering and creating new patterns or innovating classic ones. We research for new materials and ways of creating new and exciting combinations.
As computer graphics gain popularity and accessibility, the designer - machine relationship has become nearly inseparable. Yet we place an emphasis on the importance of thinking beyond the computer "click".
As for our on-on surfaces, this concept was born 5 years ago while experimenting with "fabric cutting" techniques. As we grew, the concept grew with us going back and forth until it revealed itself. With each cut we tried came a new discovery about the material and its characteristics, driving us to the extreme limits of both the material and the machine's abilities.
It gives us tremendous satisfaction to reveal something that was beyond our imagination and that continues to inspire us, as an "interactive living" surface that can react to space and people.
